Service degradation via recursive XML entity expansion

XML entity expansion in SAP Process Integration (SOAP Adapter) 7.50 allows remote authenticated users to degrade system responsiveness. The adapter processes deeply nested entity definitions in crafted SOAP requests without adequately restricting recursive expansion, temporarily increasing processor load. A privileged messaging user and conditions that trigger costly expansion are required; exploitation interrupts responsiveness without reading or changing data.
