Unauthenticated crash via unchecked MQTT WebSocket upgrade
Published Jul 8, 2026 · Updated Jul 8, 2026
Denial of service in NATS Server before 2.12.12 and 2.14.0-RC.1 through 2.14.2 allows remote attackers to crash the server. The WebSocket wsUpgrade handler accepts the /mqtt path while MQTT is disabled, routing the connection into uninitialized MQTT state that panics. Exploitation requires network access to a WebSocket listener with MQTT disabled; deployments without WebSocket or with MQTT configured are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
