Local file read via inconsistent symlink traversal
Published Jul 6, 2026 · Updated Jul 6, 2026
Path traversal in Pydantic pydantic-settings 2.12.0 through 2.14.1 allows local users to read files via crafted secrets-directory symlinks. NestedSecretsSettingsSource validates size with Path.glob but loads with glob.iglob and read_text, so linked out-of-tree files evade accounting and enter settings values. Exploitation requires secrets_nested_subdir=True and influence over secrets_dir entries; it exposes file contents and defeats the size cap without inherent network reachability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
