Authenticated MCP tool access via fail-open grant
Published Jun 30, 2026 · Updated Jun 30, 2026
Authorization bypass in Data Intelligence Lab @ HKU DeepTutor before 1.4.10 allows remote authenticated users to invoke unrestricted MCP tools. The allowed_mcp_tools function in deeptutor/multi_user/tool_access.py returns None when a non-admin grant omits mcp_tools, and the chat pipeline interprets None as unrestricted access. Exploitation requires multi-user mode and configured MCP servers; a low-privilege session can reach exposed filesystem, shell, browser, or internal-service capabilities.
