Unauthenticated SYSTEM code execution via .NET remoting
Published Jul 1, 2026 · Updated Jul 1, 2026
Unsafe deserialization in Hyland PACSgear Media Writer 5.2.1 allows remote attackers to execute code as SYSTEM through TCP port 9000. PacsgearMediaServerEngine.dll exposes unauthenticated RemoteObj and UIRemoteObj endpoints that unmarshal attacker-controlled MarshalByRefObject calls into WebClient file reads and writes. The endpoints are identical across default installations; code execution requires writing a DLL into the service directory and waiting for or causing a service restart.
