Account takeover via missing private-info authorization
Published Jul 1, 2026 · Updated Jul 1, 2026
Improper authorization in MediaWiki before 1.43.9, 1.44.6, 1.45.4, or 1.46.0 allows remote authenticated users to take over accounts. The authentication-data API and related special-page handlers change, link, or remove credentials without consistently enforcing the editmyprivateinfo right. Possession of a restricted BotPassword or OAuth authorization is the gate; exploitation converts that limited credential into control of the linked primary account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
