Arbitrary command execution via unquoted registry option
Published Aug 22, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
OS command injection in jeemok better-npm-audit through 3.11.0 and the 4.0.0-rc.2 prerelease allows local users to execute arbitrary commands. The --registry handler in src/handlers/handleInput.ts interpolates the option into an unquoted command string that index.ts sends to child_process.exec(), causing a spawned shell to interpret metacharacters. Exploitation requires control of the audit invocation's registry value and runs commands with the audit process's privileges.
