Authenticated cross-bucket file access via bucket-name traversal
Published Jul 13, 2026 · Updated Jul 13, 2026
Path traversal in Cockpit CMS before 2.14.0 allows remote authenticated users to list, upload, and delete files across storage buckets. The Bucket API's api() method preserves '..' in a supplied bucket name and passes uploads://buckets/{bucket} to Flysystem, which normalizes buckets/.. to the uploads root. Any low-privileged account with Bucket API access can read bucket listings and create or remove files belonging to other users or roles.
