Unauthenticated administrator creation via re-enterable first-run setup
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Authentication bypass in FileRise before 3.16.0 allows remote attackers to create administrator accounts through reopened setup. checkAuth.php and addUser.php treat an empty user store as a fresh installation without an independent setup-complete marker. Exploitation requires users.txt to become empty or missing after setup; the reopened flow grants administrator control without credentials or a CSRF token.
