Command execution via shell-escaped PowerShell archive names
Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026
Command injection in Vim 9.1.1784 through 9.2.0677 allows context-dependent attackers to execute commands through a crafted ZIP archive. The bundled autoload/zip.vim plugin places shell-escaped archive entry names in PowerShell strings, where embedded subexpressions are evaluated. Execution requires a user to open or view the archive and the PowerShell fallback to run, as confirmed on Windows when external ZIP tools are unavailable or fail.
