CVE-2026-57433Network attack vector

Process crash via overflowing SX_HOOK item count

Published Jul 13, 2026 · Updated Jul 13, 2026

Signed integer overflow in Perl Storable before 3.41 allows attackers to terminate deserialization with a crafted SX_HOOK record. The retrieve_hook_common routine adds one to an attacker-controlled signed 32-bit item count before passing it to av_extend, so I32_MAX wraps negative. Exploitation requires an application to pass the crafted blob to thaw or retrieve, which triggers a panic and crashes that Perl process.
