CVE-2026-57236Network attack vector

Process crash or memory disclosure via encoding setter

Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026

Use-after-free in Sparkle Motion Nokogiri before 1.19.4 allows remote attackers to crash CRuby processes or read freed memory. Document#encoding= frees the current encoding string before validating the replacement, so an exception leaves the document pointing to released storage that Document#encoding later reads. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled invalid encoding data, rescue the exception, and reuse the same CRuby document; JRuby is unaffected.
