Unauthenticated sensor crash via undersized MIME continuation
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the SMTP MIME decoder in Suricata 7.0.13 through 7.0.16 allows remote attackers to crash the sensor via crafted traffic. ProcessQuotedPrintableBodyLine saves a trailing equals sign across chunks, then reads a second continuation byte without verifying that two bytes remain. The default-enabled decoder is reachable when attacker-controlled SMTP crosses a monitored link; the bounded effects are a sensor crash and possible disclosure of one adjacent heap byte.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
