Service interruption via unbounded MQTT transaction messages
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Resource exhaustion in Suricata 7.0.0 through 7.0.16 and 8.0.0 through 8.0.5 allows remote attackers to interrupt service via MQTT traffic. In rust/src/mqtt/mqtt.rs, MQTTState appends every repeated PUBREC or PUBREL message with a matching packet identifier to the same transaction without bounding the message vector. The traffic must traverse a sensor with the MQTT parser enabled; accumulated state consumes memory and increasingly expensive processing slows or stops inspection.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 7.0.0, < 7.0.17
