Monitoring denial of service via directionless parser transactions
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Resource exhaustion in Suricata 8.0.0 through 8.0.5 allows attackers to interrupt monitoring using unidirectional DHCP or RDP traffic. The DHCP and RDP parsers create stateless transactions without recording packet direction, preventing unseen-direction inspection and transaction release. A sensor must see only one traffic direction; the retained per-flow list grows without bound, and repeated cleanup scans consume increasing CPU and memory until monitoring becomes unavailable.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
