CVE-2026-57223Hinoki check available

LocalSystem privilege escalation via unquoted service path

Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026

Unquoted service path handling in Suricata before 7.0.17 and 8.0.0 through 8.0.5 allows local users to gain LocalSystem privileges. The Windows service installation and parameter-update routines in src/win32-service.c pass an executable path containing spaces to CreateServiceA without enclosing it in quotation marks. Exploitation requires installation below a space-containing path with an earlier writable component, allowing an attacker-controlled program to run when Windows starts the service.
