Root code execution via GeoIP country-code path traversal
Published Oct 15, 2026 · Updated Oct 15, 2026
Path traversal in OPNsense core before 26.1.11 allows remote authenticated users to write files as root via GeoIP imports. In geoip.py, process_zip() and process_gzip() construct output paths from unvalidated CSV country_code values, allowing writes outside the GeoIP alias directory with an -IPv4 or -IPv6 suffix. Firewall Alias Edit privilege and management-interface access are required; attacker-controlled import content reaches root command execution through the default hourly newsyslog job.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
