Restricted Mode bypass via Mermaid notebook rendering
Published Jul 14, 2026 · Updated Jul 14, 2026
Cross-site scripting in Visual Studio Code before 1.128.1 allows local users to bypass Restricted Mode through a crafted notebook. The Mermaid notebook renderer assigns rendered diagram HTML to a temporary element's innerHTML, parsing attacker-controlled markup in the notebook webview. Opening untrusted notebook content is required; injected content can read or modify data available to the editor, but no availability impact is reported.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
