Remote privilege escalation via unchecked VP9 tile data
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Android's VP9 hardware decoder allows remote attackers to elevate privileges through crafted VP9 tile data. ReadTileInfo in vp9hwd_headers.cc processes tile information without the required bounds check, causing a write outside the intended buffer. Exploitation requires no existing privileges or user interaction and grants higher execution privileges on affected Pixel-family devices.
