CVE-2026-56859Network attack vector

Application crash via reset recursion counter

Published Aug 13, 2026 · Updated Aug 13, 2026

Resource exhaustion in Google Go encoding/xml allows remote attackers to crash affected applications through deeply nested XML. DecodeElement resets the decoder's recursion-depth counter during nested unmarshaling, so the existing guard never reaches its limit and recursive calls exhaust the goroutine stack. Exposure requires an application to pass attacker-controlled XML through an affected decoding symbol; the reported consequence is process termination, not data access or modification.
