Superadmin takeover via unscoped password lookup
Published Jun 29, 2026 · Updated Jun 29, 2026
Authorization bypass in Modoboa before 2.9.0 allows remote authenticated users with domain-admin access to reset any account password. The password action retrieves a User object directly by the URL-supplied primary key instead of applying the viewset's domain-scoped queryset. A domain administrator can therefore reset a superadmin or out-of-domain account password and take over that account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
