Account takeover via password-unbound TOTP verification
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Authentication bypass in phpMyFAQ 3.2.0 through 4.1.5 allows remote attackers to take over 2FA-enabled accounts via TOTP verification. The public /admin/check handler accepts a numeric user ID and six-digit TOTP without requiring a session established by successful password authentication. A valid or brute-forced code creates the target user's authenticated session, so any 2FA-enabled account, including an administrator account, is exposed.
