Remote code execution via unchecked update archive extraction
Published Oct 1, 2026 · Updated Oct 1, 2026
Unrestricted ZIP extraction in UpdateCE before 1.5 for GetSimple CMS Community Edition allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP. The update handler copies archive entries into the web root without restricting file types or validating extraction paths, allowing PHP deployment and writes outside the intended directory. Direct exploitation requires an administrator to submit an attacker-controlled update URL; separately tracked flaws can supply an indirect attack chain.
