CVE-2026-56651

Local file overwrite via development-log symlink

Published Aug 27, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026

Symlink following in Dool 1.3.8 and earlier allows local users to overwrite files by preplacing a link at its development log path. When --devel is enabled, Dool opens the predictable log file for truncating writes without O_NOFOLLOW, so the kernel follows a final-component symlink to its target. The user must control the expected log path, and damage is limited to files writable by the Dool process, becoming more consequential under elevated privileges.
