Remote code execution via unchecked SVC layer IDs
Published Jun 19, 2026 · Updated Jun 19, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in libaom's AV1 SVC encoder before 3.14.0 allows remote attackers to execute code through crafted layer IDs and frames. ctrl_set_layer_id() accepts out-of-range spatial or temporal IDs, selects a nonexistent LAYER_CONTEXT, and lets frame pixels overwrite the cyclic-refresh map pointer. Exploitation requires SVC encoding with cyclic refresh and a target that processes attacker-supplied frames; successful control-flow redirection executes commands.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
