Local privilege escalation via freed object reuse
Published Jul 14, 2026 · Updated Jul 14, 2026
Use-after-free in the Windows MIDI Service Module in Windows 11 allows local users to elevate privileges on affected systems. The module accesses an object after its lifetime ends; Microsoft has not identified the object, function, or triggering MIDI operation. Successful exploitation requires existing low-privilege local access and high-complexity conditions, then raises the attacker's privileges to an undisclosed level.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
