Administrator privilege escalation via missing CSRF validation
Published Jun 18, 2026 · Updated Jun 18, 2026
Cross-site request forgery in Cotonti 1.0.0 allows remote attackers to grant administrator rights through a forged rights update. The a=update path in system/admin/admin.rights.php changes group permissions, including through cot_auth_add_group(), without calling cot_check_xg() to validate an anti-CSRF token. Exploitation requires an authenticated administrator to visit attacker-controlled content; the forged request can elevate an attacker-controlled group to administrator.
