Local privilege escalation via unbounded qsort recursion
Published Oct 5, 2026 · Updated Oct 5, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Google Android 14, 15, 16, 16-qpr2, and 17 allows local users to escalate privileges via libufdt sorting. The qsort routine in libufdt_sysdeps_vendor.c recurses into the left partition regardless of its size, so adversarial partitions can exhaust stack space. The vendor implementation is used in bootloader integration; the public record does not identify a reachable entry point or the privilege level obtained.
