Open redirect via unchecked network-path Referer

Published Oct 1, 2026 · Updated Oct 1, 2026

Open redirect in OpenRun before 0.17.7 allows remote attackers to send users to an external site through a crafted Referer header. The validatedRefererRedirect function checks the Referer URL's scheme and host but returns its path without rejecting a leading //, which browsers interpret as a network-path URL. A victim must submit a request that triggers an app redirect flow; the result is navigation to an external site, not control of the OpenRun server.
