Script execution via unsanitized Fountain renderer output
Published Sep 21, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Cross-site scripting in Joplin before 3.6.15 and 3.7.0 through 3.7.1 allows attackers to execute script via Fountain code blocks. packages/renderer/MdToHtml/rules/fountain.ts inserts HTML returned by the vendored fountain.js renderer into note output without sanitization. Fountain rendering must be enabled in a desktop or mobile client, while published notes on Joplin Server enable it by default; the script can read later note-viewer content or authenticated browser data in the server origin.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
