Jail escape via host-side symlink following
Published Sep 21, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Link following in ansible-jailexec before 2.0.0 allows local users controlling a managed jail to write arbitrary files on its host. The put_file path is resolved and passed to root-run host-side mkdir and mv commands, which follow an in-jail symlink outside the jail. Exploitation requires a later file-transfer task to target the planted path; the resulting root-owned write enables jail escape and host compromise.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
