Node crash via unbounded binary-to-atom conversion
Published Aug 1, 2026 · Updated Aug 1, 2026
Resource exhaustion in ueberauth Guardian before 2.4.1 allows remote attackers to crash a BEAM node through varied namespace keys. Guardian.Plug.Keys passes binary key values to String.to_atom/1 in base_key/1 and key_from_other/1, permanently interning each distinct value. Exploitation requires an application to derive Guardian's key option from attacker-influenced input; static or hardcoded namespace keys are not exploitable.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
