Service interruption via QUIC packet buffer retention
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
Resource exhaustion in OpenSSL's QUIC stack allows remote attackers to retain packet buffers through crafted STREAM frames. Its stream reassembly path keeps the entire packet buffer referenced until the receiving application copies the stream data, allowing a small frame to pin disproportionately large memory. Exposure requires an application using an affected QUIC build to receive peer stream data; sustained memory pressure can interrupt that application, while the FIPS module is unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=3.4.0 <3.4.8
- Affected versionversion=3.5.0 <3.5.9
- Affected versionversion=3.6.0 <3.6.5
