Viewer-to-admin escalation via unrestricted log downloads
Published Jul 8, 2026 · Updated Jul 8, 2026
Incorrect authorization in Frigate 0.17.1 allows remote authenticated users with the viewer role to read credential-bearing service logs. The GET /api/logs/{service} route accepts allow_any_authenticated() without requiring the admin role, while startup passwords and camera-wizard query strings are written into served Frigate and nginx logs. Any viewer account can recover an auto-generated admin password or camera credentials, enabling administrative access or direct camera access.
