CVE-2026-54592Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Process crash via unchecked recursive path copy

Published Jun 30, 2026 · Updated Jun 30, 2026

Stack buffer overflow in Oj before 3.17.3 allows remote attackers to crash applications that recursively process deeply nested JSON. doc_each_child fails to restore or bound doc->where, then uses the excessive path length in memcpy into the fixed save_path stack buffer. Exploitation requires application code to recursively invoke Oj::Doc#each_child on attacker-controlled JSON; the demonstrated result is a protected-process abort, not code execution.
