Filesystem writes via unconfined absolute sample paths
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Path traversal in MidnightBSD Mport before 2.7.8 allows attackers to write outside the install root via crafted package manifests. The create_sample_file() function in libmport/bundle_read_install_pkg.c uses absolute sample source and destination paths without prefixing mport->root. Exploitation requires privileged installation of an attacker-influenced package with an alternate installation root, allowing writes to the host filesystem outside that root.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
