Privileged metadata redirection via attacker-controlled TMPDIR
Published Sep 21, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
External path control in MidnightBSD mport before 2.7.8 allows attackers to redirect privileged metadata extraction via TMPDIR. mport_bundle_read_extract_metafiles() unconditionally read TMPDIR and built its mkdtemp() template beneath that path before extracting package metadata. The attacker must control the environment of a root or setuid/setgid invocation, exposing privileged metadata and hook processing to attacker-controlled files.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
