Mirror manipulation and out-of-bounds read via ICMP parsing
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
ICMP reply validation flaws in MidnightBSD Mport before 2.7.8 allow attackers to alter mirror selection or trigger an out-of-bounds read. In libmport/ping.c, ping() accepts replies without matching icmp_id or icmp_seq and locates the ICMP header at a fixed 20-byte offset instead of using ip_hl. Exploitation requires visibility to inject or spoof replies to an active mirror probe; the reported consequences are manipulated latency selection and out-of-bounds parsing.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
