Unauthenticated service interruption via MBAP length overflow
Published Jun 14, 2026 · Updated Jun 14, 2026
Off-by-one overflow in nanoMODBUS 1.23.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to interrupt Modbus/TCP servers with a crafted MBAP frame. recv_msg_header() accepts an MBAP Length value of 255, then receives 253 payload bytes at buffer index 8 and writes the last byte beyond the 260-byte buffer into the adjacent index field. No authentication or user interaction is required; the corrupted parser state causes invalid memory access and can also disclose one byte or target unintended registers on systems without memory protection.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
