Cluster-administrator escalation via unchecked CSR organizations
Published Jun 22, 2026 · Updated Jun 22, 2026
Privilege escalation in Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform allows local users to gain cluster-administrator access via a crafted CSR. The WICD CSR auto-approver checks only for the system:wicd-nodes organization and accepts extra values, including system:masters, before signing the request. Reachability requires control of a Windows worker node holding WICD credentials; the resulting client certificate enables full cluster takeover.
