Arbitrary file read via unsafe rich-text parsing
Published Jul 29, 2026 · Updated Jul 29, 2026
XXE in veraPDF-validation 1.25.73 through 1.30.1 and 1.31.1 through 1.31.70 allows remote attackers to read local files via crafted PDFs. DictionaryKeysHelper.getRichTextStringOrStreamEntryStringRepresentation parses rich-text /RC or /RV data with a default DocumentBuilderFactory that resolves external entities, then concatenates expanded text into the validation report. Exploitation requires validation of an attacker-supplied PDF and exposes server files or enables server-side requests without authentication.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 1.25.73, < 1.30.2
