Unauthenticated store replacement via external snapshot import
Published Jul 8, 2026 · Updated Jul 8, 2026
Missing authentication in Dgraph Alpha before 25.3.5 allows remote attackers to replace or clear a group store through public gRPC. The StreamExtSnapshot handler lacks an administrator check and reaches Badger StreamWriter.Prepare(), which deletes existing database data before validating streamed packets. Reachability of Alpha's public gRPC port without public gRPC mTLS is sufficient; a Done-only stream wipes the selected store, while valid Badger chunks replace it.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
