File overwrite via symlink-following remote drop staging
Published Jun 12, 2026 · Updated Jun 12, 2026
Link following in kitten dnd in Kovid Goyal kitty 0.47.0 through 0.47.1 allows remote attackers to overwrite user-writable files via a remote drop. Duplicate remote basenames let a staged symlink precede a same-name regular file, which CreateAt opens with truncation but without O_NOFOLLOW. Exploitation requires a local user to perform remote drag and drop on a case-sensitive filesystem; writes remain limited to that user's permissions.
