Cross-user message access via supplied REST identity
Published Jun 9, 2026 · Updated Jun 9, 2026
Authorization bypass in BuddyPress 14.4.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to read, reply to, or delete arbitrary private messages. The messages REST API's get_item_permissions_check method authorizes the request's user_id instead of the logged-in user, and its result gates read, update, and delete handlers. Any authenticated account can therefore target another user's thread without user interaction, exposing message confidentiality and integrity.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
