Unsafe eBPF acceptance via stale pointer offset

Published Sep 2, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026

Incorrect calculation in vbpf PREVAIL before 0.2.4 allows remote attackers to pass unsafe eBPF programs through verification. EbpfTransformer::add() skips offset-variable updates when a destination register has multiple possible pointer types, so later bounds checks rely on a stale offset. Submission access to a PREVAIL-backed verifier is required; a trusted Linux kernel can then load out-of-bounds reads or writes that enable memory corruption, information disclosure, or privilege escalation.
