Denial of service via unchecked ISO-BMFF reads
Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026
Denial of service in Mattias Wallander ExifReader before 4.40.1 allows remote attackers to abort requests via crafted HEIC or AVIF files. The ISO-BMFF findMetaBox and parseBox path accepts an eight-byte box header, then reads full-box or extended-size fields beyond the DataView. Exploitation requires an application to parse attacker-supplied HEIC or AVIF data without catching the RangeError; one file can abort its request or worker.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
