CVE-2026-53492Network attack vector

Resource-allocation bypass via checkpoint CDI annotations

Published Jul 1, 2026 · Updated Jul 1, 2026

Incorrect authorization in the containerd CRI allows remote authenticated users to inject CDI device edits during checkpoint restore. CRImportCheckpoint preserves cdi.k8s.io annotations from untrusted checkpoint metadata and merges them into the restored container instead of filtering them against the create-time specification. A user needs pod-creation and checkpoint-restore access on a Linux node with CDI enabled and a matching host CDI specification, allowing device nodes or host mounts to bypass Kubernetes allocation controls.
