Remote denial of service via openowner leak
Published Jul 19, 2026 · Updated Jul 19, 2026
Memory leak in the Linux Kernel nfsd subsystem allows remote attackers to exhaust memory via concurrent NFSv4.0 OPEN requests. On an unconfirmed-owner retry, find_or_alloc_open_stateowner() overwrites an existing new pointer with a fresh alloc_stateowner() result, losing the prior slab object and owner-name buffer. Exploitation requires two unauthenticated NFSv4.0 OPEN threads using the same owner string to win a narrow, repeatable race, causing cumulative memory exhaustion and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
