Forged UDF descriptors via skipped CRC validation
Published Jul 19, 2026 · Updated Jul 19, 2026
Improper integrity validation in the Linux Kernel UDF parser allows local users to bypass descriptor CRC checks with a crafted image. In udf_read_tagged(), an oversized descCRCLength makes the bounds test skip the CRC comparison, after which a recomputable 8-bit tag checksum is accepted. The kernel must mount or read the attacker-supplied UDF block device; published material does not identify a demonstrated read, write, or crash primitive.
