Kernel compromise via stale RDS send pointer
Published Jul 1, 2026 · Updated Jul 1, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux Kernel RDS/IB setup path allows remote attackers to corrupt kernel memory through connection requests. The rds_ib_setup_qp() unwind frees i_sends without nulling it when i_recvs allocation fails, so later teardown reuses and frees the stale send-ring pointer. Reachability requires an RDS/IB listener and the intervening allocation failure under resource pressure; resulting corruption can disclose kernel memory, alter execution, or crash the host.
